Need a good base coat to use when painting a plastic model kit with a Transparent Candy Apple Red by Testors?
- - For Plastic Model Kit Builders - - Hello,My name is Alvin & I'm actually painting this model car body for a friend because he's lousy at it lol & he says I spray paint better than him.Anyways,I'll be using Testors "Transparent Candy Apple Red(1605)" as a spray enamel in a can.These type of colors will run I believe if I don't use a base coat from what I hear.I just don't know what I should use & what special steps do I take to make sure I do it correctly & properly.Can some one possibly help me out?Thanks for all your suggestions & help in advance.
I've never used that type of spray paint out of the can. Personally I've never gotten good results with spray cans which is why I always use an air brush.
But if you want to use a can and need an undercoat to make it adhere better then try a light neutral gray sprayed on very lightly to give it a good surface to stick to.
Also with colors like this it is best to make several very light coats rather than one heavy coat which will probably run. I would hold the can so that it mists onto the model and then let it dry before applying another coat.
Spraying like this make take several hours but the results should be worth it.
