Tools For All Occasions

Level 2: Tools for all occasions

To do anything in the house or the car, a handy person needs to have the right tools. With the right tools, knowledge and knowing how to do something become the only obstacles remaining, and those things can be learned. For example, if a person wanted to build a small shed, first and foremost are the tools necessary for such a project. Next, the project would require supplies. And last, the person doing the project would need the necessary experience and knowledge.

So, how does one go about in assembling the best set of tools necessary for all occasions?

Like all people with good tools, you need to have a toolbox or tool cabinet. For a non-professional, a good size toolbox is adequate for most small jobs around the house. And the same goes for most minor things you can do upkeep the car, such as tune-ups and oil changes. Start by selecting a nice size toolbox. Roominess and sturdiness are important, because you will more than likely end up being more and more tools and the box can get filled up pretty quickly over time. There is nothing worse than a cramped toolbox where you cannot quickly get to the tools that you want.

Most hardware stores and home repair centers will carry the standard size toolboxes. Trying to get yourself started with your own toolbox, it is probably a good idea to grab one of these. Do opt for the metal toolbox versus the plastic ones. Yes, it is more expensive for the metal boxes, but the plastic ones do not last as long, especially when you weigh down your toolbox.

Now, you need to fill your toolbox with the essentials. The best approach is to make a list of tools and items you would like to have in the toolbox. Standard would be a good hammer, quality screwdrivers, pliers, vice grips, wrenches, electrical wires, measuring tape, electrical tape, duct tape, wire stripper and cutter, portable drill, nails, screws, bolts, nuts, and whatever else you feel useful. Once you’ve assembled a good toolbox for the house, you need to make one for the trunk of the car or truck as well, because it’s not a good idea to just have one box and lug that around everywhere.

For the car, you will not need all the extras like a drill and other electrical tools, but you certainly want to be prepared if you end up stuck somewhere and you need to work on the car to get it going again.

Now, the toolbox will not hold large items like a power saw or a power sander, but that’s okay. You don’t have to have everything in your toolbox to be at level 2; you just need to have everything organized and accessible for when you do work on a project. The toolbox serves as the center piece of all your equipment for whatever project you happen to be working on around the house or the car.

Lastly, remember to only have quality tools in your tool arsenal; junky tools or cheap tools will make your entire set lose its value, not to mention hinder your work when you are busy with your project.
