Let's talk tools!

Welcome to TylerToolshed.com, a place where you will find useful information on all kinds of working tools, from tools for the home to tools for the car and beyond!

Having the right working tools is so important; without the right tools a simple task can turn into a headache. Have you ever seen the variety of tools at the mechanic’s shop, or what about the tools a plumber has? Take away those tools and each of those experts becomes pretty helpless. Like them, you and I need to have our own set of tools if we are to be able to do some of the necessary things for ourselves, which could be something like tuning up the car or fixing something around the house, maybe changing a doorknob that no longer works. Try doing any of these things without the right tools and you will know how annoying that can be.

Okay, so what are we talking about when it comes to owning our own set of working tools? Are we talking about turning the garage or part of your living space into a workshop and spending thousands of dollars to buy all kinds of working tools that may never used? No! Owning working tools is about having specific tools for your own needs for those occasions that you will need them. Of course, the number of pieces and the types of tools you own all depend on how much time you will spend using each of the tools. There is no point in buying tools just for the sake of owning them; working tools are meant to be useful.

So, let’s break it down. I think when it comes to working tools, there are several levels of ownership:

Level 0: No tools!

Not owning any kind of working tools is like… like choosing to walk everywhere without shoes. It can be done but why? If you happen to be in this category, please think about getting some tools for the house and some for the car. You will save yourself all kinds of money because you will not have to be helpless and end up paying people to do some of the things you can do for yourself. In addition to that, you will have less headaches and be less vulnerable.

Level 1: very basic tools for the house

Admittedly, some folks do not believe that they are handy or good with repairing and working with tools. But anyone can hammer a nail and use a screwdriver. The first order of business is to have some tools so that you can do a few of these things for yourself.

The list of very basic working tools would be a hammer, two screwdrivers (a flat head and a Philips head), a pair of pliers, some small nails and small screws. One could not get more basic then this when it comes to the fewest tools owned. But with these tools a person could get by, even if there is a phobia of working tools and doing things for yourself when things break.

Level 1: very basic tools for the car

Driving all over the place without any kind of tools is asking for trouble. Yes, road service can do everything nowadays. But sometimes there is an emergency and you will need to help yourself. It is highly recommended that folks have some very basic essentials for the car.

A car jack is always necessary. That free jack that comes with most cars is a deathtrap waiting to happen. It is not a good idea to rely on that, even to change a tire. Instead, one should have a two-ton hydraulic jack that will do the job properly in any weather condition. For example, if it’s raining, you do not want to rely on the weak jack that comes with the car. The other items to have in the car include a good flashlight, screwdrivers, a hammer, a good pair of vice grip, a set of wrenches, batter cables, and some rope. Rope is always handy.

Let’s now talk about buying your basic tools…
